Apprentice Development Days – a huge success!

This well supported new industry initiative kicked off in March and is delivered twice weekly in 2022, it’s free at The Centre for U for electrical apprentices.

The day aims to prepare apprentices to successfully navigate the difficulties of modern life, and to help them better support their colleagues, family and friends in times of need. Drug and Alcohol Awareness, Family Violence, and Mental Health and Suicide Prevention are all covered by those with lived experiences from the ADA team. The ETU, The Centre for U and ADA want to help our apprentices better understand and recognise the challenges, and better recognise the pitfalls that life can throw sometimes.

The Apprentice Development Day key presenter is former AFL champion and legendary coach Kevin Sheedy. Kevin assists in putting a spotlight on mental health and awareness training activities, as well as providing motivational sessions with apprentices. Having completed an apprenticeship himself, Kevin understands some of the challenges that our young ‘tradies’ may face. He also recognises the important values that completing an apprenticeship may instil in a person – teamwork, discipline, commitment, and comradery – all valuable skills which have helped to mould Kevin into the man he is today – and to overcome challenges throughout his noteworthy life journey.

The Centre for U successfully delivers Electricians CPD pilots in an industry first!

The pilots were a huge success, with all those attending agreeing CPD will be of benefit to our industry.

The Electricians Continuing Professional Development (CPD) industry pilots have just been delivered by The Centre for U, at North Melbourne and Geelong.

Electricians were provided access to the new learning system developed by Energy Safe Victoria and Future Energy Skills. Electricians reviewed topics such as their responsibilities and apprenticeship supervision. Then after the main break, mandatory testing and fault-finding tasks provide an opportunity to get hands on.

All agreed that the new BesTech 710 testing equipment was great to work with, making the day far more interactive than anticipated.

Goes without saying everyone also enjoyed the great coffee, and fabulous lunches provided free by The Centre for U!

With CPD courses to commence in 2022, stay tuned on our (platform page) for upcoming details.
