Course Description

This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

Assessment

To demonstrate your understanding of the course, a range of assessment methods will be used including written questions and demonstration of practical skills. All training and assessment are completed under the rules of evidence and principles of assessment.

If you completed the ETU Building Industry Construction ‘Red Card’ course please advise The Centre for U administration upon registering, as we may be able to adjust your volume of learning.

Course Outcomes

After successfully completing this course, you will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the units of competency, CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the Construction Industry

The Centre for U will issue the statement of attainment on the day that it can used it as evidence of having completed training for entry onto construction sites.

A WorkSafe Construction Induction card will be sent in the mail.

Employed ETU Member: $145

Non Member: $185


Eligibility for Free Training

Members must be financial (includes suspended up to six (6) months).

Must be an ETU member for more than three (3) months.

There are no pre-requisites for this course, however, The Centre for U requires that students meet the following criteria:

  • Have a suitable level of (English) language, literacy, and numeracy to complete the course requirements
  • Students must have reasonable fitness to work on a construction site

Students who complete this course, as well as obtaining their White Card from WorkSafe, can expect to be permitted to work on building sites and in other construction settings.

Construction induction training requirements

WorkSafe Victoria set the requirement for delivering Construction Induction Training that student records must checked, and details of participant’s photo identification recorded

Photo identification

The Centre for U delivering will need to verify and record the identity of course participants against accepted proof of identity documents.

Driver’s licence and passports are forms of suitable photo identification.
