Hearing health checks
It is important to protect your ears when exposed to loud sounds. A gradual decline in hearing, particularly at higher frequencies, is quite normal with age, but hearing at these frequencies can also be affected by exposure to loud noise.
We recommend you test your hearing every year as part of your normal health check.
The first step is to have a free hearing test. This is the best way to establish the current state of your hearing health and regular check-ups are important to monitor any changes to that baseline.
This service is free to ETU members and their families.

Program Description
When you arrive for your appointment, one of our trained staff members will take you to a quiet screening room where you’ll be played a series of ‘beeps’ delivered at differing volumes and frequencies through a set of headphones. The test will run for 20-minutes and its as straight forward as pressing a button each time you hear a sound. Upon completion, we may recommend an assessment with a clinician to determine the severity and type of hearing loss, along with what steps to take next.
To access Support & Health Services for free, you must be:
- A financial ETU member (includes suspended up to six (6) months)
- An ETU member for more than three (3) months
- A family member (of an eligible ETU member) who fits the definition
