Eligibility for free services

The below free services terms and conditions came into effect as of 1st of January 2023.

To be eligible

  • Members must be financial (includes suspended up to six (6) months)
  • Must be an ETU member for more than three (3) months
  • Family members (of an eligible ETU member) must meet the family definition
  • Some services have additional conditions or restrictions, please refer to the course specific webpage for more details
  • Must have attended all previous free service registration/s, or provided 72 hours’ notice of any non-attendance (within calendar year)

Upskilling for unemployed ETU members

Free Upskilling courses for unemployed members are not restricted and apply to all courses* offered at the Centre for U, however, acceptance of a subsequent upskilling course will not be confirmed until the first upskilling course has been successfully completed (including all course work and assessments). Your booking is confirmed when you receive written confirmation of your enrolment.

All upskilling courses are free to eligible unemployed ETU members*.

(*REC course not included)

Proof of unemployment is required at the time of booking and needs to be no more than six (6) months old. If you do not provide proof of unemployment within 10 days your registration will be forfeited/rejected. Suitable proof is in the form of:

  • Employment Separation Certificate
  • Redundancy/Termination Notice
  • Statutory Declaration (stating that the individual has not been working on the tools/earning an income)

Employed ETU members requesting to access upskilling training at a discount will need to be financial.

Registered Electrical Contractors are not eligible for free Upskilling services.

Upskilling for employed ETU members

Free Upskilling courses for employed members are offered on a per annum basis (based on the calendar year). The Centre for U reserves the right to cease or alter free training at its discretion.

Free Upskilling courses are limited to one (1) course per person per annum for employed members and your booking is not confirmed until you receive written confirmation of your enrolment. Free Upskilling courses for employed members are limited to:

  • Construction Wiring
  • Provide First Aid, CPR & Low Voltage Rescue
  • Provide First Aid
  • CPR & Low Voltage Rescue
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • Course in Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure up to 22kW
  • Health Safety Representative (HSR) Training
  • Solar Grid Connect (North Melbourne) 
  • Work Safe – Construction Induction Card

Course pre-requisites must be met for an enrolment to be accepted.

Cancelling your attendance to a course with less than 72 hours’ notice will result in no further access to free upskilling within the calendar year.

All upskilling courses have a member discount available to eligible ETU members after the one (1) free course per person per annum is undertaken.

Personal and Family Services

  • No limits apply to group seminars, courses and webinars
  • Funeral cover, Emergency Transport and Baby Pack applies to eligible ETU members

Workplace Support

  • No limits apply to group seminars, courses and webinars
  • Preparation for Work – for eligible unemployed members, 1 appointment only

Health Services

  • No limits apply to group seminars, courses and webinars
  • Myotherapy and Remedial Massage is limited to two (2) free sessions per person per annum
  • You must be over the age of 18 to book a Skin and Health Check and are limited to one (1) session per annum

Definitions

Financial – For an ETU member or their family to access free services, the member must have paid their membership (relates to all services).

Unemployed – For an ETU member to access free training, they must be unemployed and not be earning an income. (relates to Upskilling Services)

Family member – For a family member of an ETU member to access free services, they must be:

  • A spouse, de facto or partner (of an ETU member)
  • Children including step children and adopted children (of an ETU member)

This excludes:

  • Siblings
  • Uncles, aunties, cousins
  • Mother and Father
  • Grandparents
